The FLI is an independent higher federal authority and governmental research institute for animal health, animal nutrition, animal husbandry, animal genetic resources and animal welfare within the portfolio of the Federal Ministry for Food and Agriculture (BMEL).
In a joint appointment between FLI and the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences of the University of Greifswald (UG)
the position of Head of the Institute of Molecular Virology and Cell Biology (f/m/d)
(Director and Professor, remuneration grade B2/B3 of the Federal Remuneration Act [Bundesbesoldungsordnung, BBesO] or employee based on the Collective Agreement for Public Services [Tarifvertrag fuer den oeffentlichen Dienst Bund-TVoeD Ost], depending on the requirements met; Professor pursuant to the Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania Higher Education Act [Landeshochschulgesetz Mecklenburg-Vorpommern]) at the FLIs headquarters Greifswald-Insel Riems, is to be filled immediately. Employment is governed by the provisions of the public services and employment law.
Tasks: The Institute of Molecular Virology and Cell Biology (IMVZ) performs infection biological research on viral pathogens of farm animals and highly pathogenic zoonotic viruses and advises the BMEL in these fields. Research is aimed at elucidating the basic mechanisms of viral infection processes as a basis for the development of strategies to prevent infection-related damage to animal health and the transmission of pathogens from animals to humans. For this purpose, the institute investigates molecular properties of viruses and conducts research on virus-host interactions at the cellular level. In addition to the application of relevant primary cell infection models, cell biological aspects of virus infection are investigated directly in the infected animal using recombinant viruses (reverse genetics) and analytical methods such as proteome analysis, live cell imaging and (shortly) 3D light sheet fluorescence microscopy. The combination with other `omics` technologies will strengthen system-biological analyses of virus-host interactions.
The candidate shall represent the subject Molecular Virology/Cell Biology at the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences of the University of Greifswald with a teaching load of 2 semester hours per week. A description of the above-mentioned institutes tasks can be requested by email at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Requirements: We are looking for a highly qualified scientist with documented experimental experience in the field of molecular virology and cell biology.
Pursuant to Article 58 of the State University Law of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, the prerequisites for the position are: completed university studies, doctorate, teaching skills as well as additional scientific achievements, which are usually provided within the framework of a junior professorship, habilitation or equivalent qualifications. Furthermore, for work at the FLI the following qualifications are required: team-oriented leadership skills, experience in the management of interdisciplinary research projects and in the acquisition of third party funding. Very good German and English language skills or the willingness to acquire German language skills in a timely manner are expected. Active support of cooperation with the other specialist institutes of the FLI and the corresponding partners at the University of Greifswald is an important task of the head of institute.
Requests of applicants for part-time employment will be checked for compliance with the official tasks.
BMEL, FLI and UG aim to increase the percentage of women in leadership positions and therefore expressly encourage women to apply.
In order to support the reconciliation of family and working life, the FLI offers flexible working time models within the frame of the official tasks.
