Domainex Limited: Advertisement for a Head of Assay Biology
Do you feel passionate about biomedical research? Are you qualified to PhD level in life sciences with several years of industrial experience in developing and implementing small-molecule screening assays in both biochemical and cellular formats? Does the challenge of solving difficult problems in assay development excite you? Do want to lead a bioassay group involved in the invention of new medicines? If so, you might very well be the candidate we are looking for!
Domainex is a fast-growing, privately-owned drug research services company, with a strong reputation for innovation. We support biotechnology, pharmaceutical, patient foundation, and academic life-science organisations from around the globe in progressing their drug discovery programmes towards pre-clinical development. We are an ambitious organisation offering best-in-class services to our clients. We are based at a state-of-the-art 2,000m2 facility at the Chesterford Research Park near Cambridge, UK and our co-located, multi-disciplinary team of talented chemists and biologists has a friendly, collaborative, can-do approach, and they love their science!
We are now seeking a Head of Assay Biology to lead our group of bioassay scientists. The job holder will line manage team leaders and scientists deployed in flexibly organised teams according to the needs of our client programmes. In addition, they will also be responsible for leading one or more projects that could be multi-disciplinary in nature. We are also looking for someone who can identify profitable opportunities for new products and services, and who can devise and implement the R&D required to develop these and demonstrate their utility to our customers. The role also requires supporting our sales and marketing efforts to secure new business from existing and prospective clients and to launch new service offerings.
The successful candidate will have had several years of hands-on assay biology experience in an industrial small-molecule drug discovery setting; they will be experienced in assay development as well as routine screening to develop SAR using both biochemical and phenotypic cellular formats; and in characterising the in vitro pharmacology of prospective drug candidates. They will be familiar with a wide range of bioassay instruments and with the laboratory automation used for plate formatting, although experience of using high-throughput robotics is not necessary, as Domainex does not conduct HTS campaigns in-house. Crucially, the job holder also has to be able to discern and understand our clients’ detailed needs, and then conceive and write-up compelling science plans and research proposals that address these requirements. We have specialist expertise in structure-based and fragment-based drug design, and our ideal candidate would have experience of these areas, and of using biophysical techniques for screening and compound characterisation.
Remuneration: The position offers a competitive salary with generous company pension scheme and life insurance benefit.
