The International Centre for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (ICGEB) is an intergovernmental organisation with 66 Member States that operates through three research institutes, in Trieste (Italy), New Delhi (India), and Cape Town (South Africa) and is host to 700 scientists working on major global problems affecting health, nutrition, agriculture and biotech development.

ICGEB is expanding research activities at its Trieste and Cape Town Components and is creating three new Group Leader positions. The current call is for the following:

A Group Leader based in Trieste to pursue cutting-edge research in the field of Bioinformatics. The successful candidate should have a proven track record in the analysis of biological datasets from omics studies (genomics, transcriptomics, etc.), have a strong background in computer programming, statistics, computational biology, as well as expertise in genomics or a related field. He/she should have a proven track record of leading an internationally-recognised team of scientists, with a strong publication record and an ability to attract competitive research funding.

A Group Leader based in Cape Town to pursue cutting-edge research in the field of Infectious Diseases with particular focus on Emerging Viruses of importance in the African Continent. The successful candidate should have a proven track record of research excellence in virology and have a strong background in pathogenesis of infectious diseases. He/she should have a proven track record of leading an internationally-recognised team of scientists, with a strong publication record and an ability to attract competitive research funding.

A Group Leader based in Cape Town to pursue cutting-edge research in the field of Diabetes. The successful candidate should have a proven track record of research excellence in diabetes, and have a strong background in metabolic disorders. He/she should have an excellent track record of leading an internationally-recognised team of scientists, with a strong publication record and an ability to attract competitive research funding.

The successful candidates will be expected to develop an independent line of research whilst also collaborating closely with other research groups within ICGEB. In addition, the candidate will be expected to take part in ICGEB’s training and capacity-building activities, and to work closely with scientists in ICGEB’s member countries.
