Our Trust

Cambridge University Hospitals (CUH) NHS Foundation Trust comprises Addenbrooke’s Hospital and the Rosie Hospital in Cambridge. With over 10000 staff and over 1100 beds the priorities of the Trust focus on a quality service which is all about people – patients, staff and partners. Recognised as providing ‘outstanding’ care to our patients and rated ‘Good’ overall by the Care Quality Commissioner, is testament to the skill and dedication of the people who work here. CUH’s values – Together- safe, kind, excellent – are at the heart of patient care, defining the way all staff work and behave. The Trust provides accessible high-quality healthcare for the local people of Cambridge, together with specialist services, dealing with rare or complex conditions for a regional, national and international population.

Are you an exceptional and visionary scientific leader, looking for a role where you can translate advanced and novel approaches into clinical genomics applications to improve the health of the population? Are you also a well-established translational or clinician scientist with a track record of leading an independent research program focused on genomics and translational science/medicine? If your answer to both questions is yes, the role of Scientific Director in the East Midlands and East of England (EMEE) NHS Genomics Laboratory Hub (GLH) could be the ideal job for you.

This is an exciting new opportunity to become one of only seven GLH Scientific Directors in England. You will work with the other Scientific Directors across the network of GLHs as well as interacting with NHS England and Genomics England Limited. You will focus on leveraging the latest scientific research to deliver a clinically led Genomic Laboratory Service to a population of nearly 10 million in the EMEE geographical region.

The EMEE GLH is based at Cambridge University Hospitals on the Cambridge Biomedical campus, where a wealth of Genomics and basic science expertise is found. Additionally, the internationally renowned Wellcome Genome campus and Cambridge science parks are nearby, and the GLH catchment area includes the Universities of Cambridge, Leicester and Nottingham. This provides a rich scientific environment where the Scientific Director will be able to direct research and collaborate with world leading experts in their fields, to enable rapid translation of state-of-the-art technology and the latest scientific knowledge into clinical medicine.

The Scientific Director will provide overall executive direction and scientific leadership for the EMEE GLH research and development activity. Reporting to the EMEE GLH Medical Director, the Scientific Director will be a key member of the EMEE GLH management and leadership team, and will also serve as a spokesperson and ambassador for the EMEE GLH at a national and international level.
