IN MOLECULAR BIOLOGY (F/M/D)
with a focus on “Engineering of Molecular Systems”
The ZENTRUM FÜR MOLEKULARE BIOLOGIE (ZMBH) at Heidelberg University (Germany) is an internationally recognized research center for fundamental research in molecular and cell biology located in one of the largest life sciences campuses in Europe.
The successful candidate will contribute to the research activities at the ZMBH in molecular and cellular biology. More specifically, this professorship should have a research focus on Engineering of Molecular Systems and investigate topics such as “macromolecules of life”, “engineering of proteins and cells”, or “synthetic genomes and cell systems” at the interface between biosciences and engineering.
In 2024/2025, the holder of this position will have the opportunity to move into a new building (Heidelberg 4 Life) that expands the ZMBH and is aimed at facilitating collaborations with the nearby Max Planck Institute for Medical Research. Applicants should have outstanding research and publication records corresponding to their career stage. Active participation in teaching activities on Bachelor, Master and PhD student levels is expected. The position includes 100 % salary support and a research support budget commensurate with the W-3 level.
The ZMBH houses 15 independent research groups. We offer an excellent international research environment, which is further complemented by numerous University institutes and research centers and the Flagship Initiative “Engineering Molecular Systems”. There are several in-house scientific core facilities, i.e. protein analytics including mass spectrometry, advanced light microscopy, flow cytometry; more over mechanical and electrical workshops as well as centralized administrative services are available. Our Alliance with the German Cancer Research Center (DKFZ-ZMBH Alliance) provides scientific interactions and access to central facilities and scientific infrastructure of the DKFZ.

Prerequisites for employment are a University degree and a lecturer qualification (habilitation) or a successfully evaluated junior professorship or equivalent qualifications (in accordance with Article 47, § 2 of the Higher Education Law of the Federal State of Baden-Württemberg).
