The position is due to commence at the end of 2020.

EXC 2124 studies functional interactions in complex microbial communities, the microbiomes, with emphasis on bacterial pathogens and antibiotic resistance. It is a world-leading interdisciplinary research institution awarded as a Cluster of Excellence by the German Excellence Strategy. EXC 2124 combines more than 40 laboratories at the University of Tübingen, the University Hospital Tübingen, and the Max Planck Institute for Developmental Biology in a stimulating, highly interactive research environment, covering molecular, ecological, immunological, compound-focused, computational, and clinical research.

A successful candidate is expected to have a documented record of internationally competitive research related to the cluster themes and of acquisition of substantial extramural research funding. Research themes may address but are not restricted to microbiome imaging or tissue engineering approaches, mucosal immunity, or pathobiont exclusion mechanisms in mammalian model systems. The successful candidate is expected to actively contribute to the Cluster of Excellence EXC 2124 and to further research networks of the German Research Foundation and the German Center for Infection Research. Required qualifications include a PhD or equivalent international degree and postdoctoral qualifications equivalent to the requirements for tenure. This includes evidence of teaching effectiveness.

The new professor is expected to teach in the life science study programs related to the cluster of excellence themes. During the EXC 2124 funding period the position comes with a significantly reduced teaching load.
