in Molecular Botany

We are seeking qualified applicants for teaching and research in the area of Molecular Botany. The starting date is summer semester 2021. Core areas of biological research in Aachen are Integrated Bioeconomy and Computational Life Science. We thus search for a candidate who works at the intersection of molecular plant genomics and a biological question related to bioeconomy (e.g., plant secondary metabolism). We place particular emphasis on interdisciplinary collaborations within the faculty, with other faculties within the university and with the Forschungszentrum Jülich. We expect that the successful candidate continues to develop an already strong, original, and internationally visible research profile, enabling acquisition of competitive external funds. Teaching tasks include theoretical and practical education in botany (including genetics and molecular biology) in the B.Sc./M.Sc. courses of the Aachen biology and biotechnology, including contribution to general plant biology teaching tasks. Additionally, we expect involvement in the new degree program “Computational Life Science”. We also expect participation in academic self-administration.
A doctoral degree is required; additionally, Habilitation (post-doctoral lecturing qualification), an exemplary record of research achievement as an assistant/an associate/a junior professor or university researcher and/or an outstanding career outside academia are highly desirable. Ability in and commitment to teaching are essential. The application should include supporting documents regarding success in teaching. German is not necessary to begin but will be expected as a teaching language within the first 5 years.
Experience with plant genome sequencing, assembling and analysis is desired.
