We are seeking qualified applicants for teaching and research in the area of Medical Informatics in the Institute for Medical Informatics (Director Prof. Dr. Rainer Röhrig). The starting date is as early as possible.
It is expected that the applicant shows comprehensive knowledge and longstanding experience in the field of Medical Informatics. The applicant should have outstanding expertise in at least two of the areas data integration of medical data, interoperability and communications standards in medicine and health care, distributed data analysis, decision support systems in medicine, signal processing or digital media in the medical education.A contribution to the SMITH consortium within the BMBF funding initiative Medical Informatics (BMBF-MI-I) and a participation in the further development of the research data infrastructure in the entire area of the Medical Faculty in close coordination within the Institute of Medical Informatics is expected.
Teaching assignments include courses characterized by QB1 “Querschnittsbereich Epidemiologie, Medizinische Biometrie und Medizinische Informatik“ according to § 27 Abs. 1 ÄAppO equivalent topics of the “Modellstudiengang Medizin Aachen”, the master program “Biomedical Engineering”, and the application subject “Medicine” of the bachelor/master programs mathematics and informatics. The involvement in the development of innovative didactical methods is expected.
Interdisciplinary scientific co-operation with other departments and clinics of the Medical School, with the research areas of the RWTH Aachen University including SMITH, SFB TRR 57, IRTG 2150, IZKF AACHEN, SFB/TRR219, JARA, with the Institute of Biomedical Technologies (IBMT) and with other technical disciplines are encouraged.
A Ph.D. degree is required; additionally, Habilitation (post-doctoral lecturing qualification), an exemplary record of research achievement as an assistant / an associate / a junior professor or university researcher and/or an outstanding career outside academia are highly desirable. The applicant should have the Certificate „Medical Informatics“ of GI and GDMS or equivalent expertise. Ability in and commitment to teaching are essential as well as commitment to develop innovative teaching methods. The application should include supporting documents regarding success in teaching and a teaching portfolio. German is not necessary to begin but will be expected as a teaching language within the first 5 years.
