in Cellular Mechanotransduction and Gravisensing

We are jointly seeking qualified applicants for teaching and research at RWTH Aachen University and the non-university research institution (DLR) in the area of Cellular Mechanotransduction. The starting date is as soon as possible. The position is initially limited to a fixed 5-year term.
The applicant is appointed as W2 professor at the Institute of Pharmacology and Toxicology at the Faculty of Medicine and, according to the “Jülicher Modell”, is granted leave of absence to lead a research group at the DLR Institute of Aerospace Medicine in Cologne within the Department of Gravitational Biology. Outstanding expertise in the area of Cellular Mechanotransduction, in particular via mechanosensitive ion channels, and in teaching is expected. Experience with pharmacological interventions and genetic screening as well as external funding, direction of research projects and international co-operations is desirable.
The professorship is intended to foster the collaboration between the Faculty of Medicine and the DLR. Interdisciplinary scientific co-operation with other departments and clinics of the Medical School, with the DLR research groups, with the research areas of the RWTH Aachen University including SFB TRR 57, SFB TRR 219, IRTG 2150, IZKF AACHEN, JARA, in particular with the focus area Translational Neuroscience and GRK 2415, with the Institute of Biomedical Technologies (IBMT) and with other technical disciplines are encouraged. In addition, an active commitment in the new medical student’s curriculum of the Medical Faculty (“Modellstudiengang Medizin Aachen”), in the curriculum of dentistry and the master program “Biomedical Engineering” is expected. The teaching obligation is two hours per week and semester.
A Ph.D. degree is required; additionally, Habilitation (post-doctoral lecturing qualification), an exemplary record of research achievement as an assistant / an associate / a junior professor or university researcher and/or an outstanding career outside academia are highly desirable. Ability in and commitment to teaching are essential as well as experience in the professional management of scientific and technical employees. The application should include supporting documents regarding success in teaching and a teaching portfolio. German is not necessary to begin but will be expected as a teaching language within the first 5 years.
