Our National Centre for Fisheries Research team undertakes research and consultancy services in fisheries monitoring, population modelling, and effects of fishing research. At our Wellington campus, we also conduct research on marine ecology, marine biodiversity, ocean physics, seafloor mapping and geology, and atmosphere, climate and hazards.
We are seeking a Fisheries Data Manager to manage and maintain fisheries catch and effort, research, and observer databases under contract for the Ministry for Primary Industries / Fisheries New Zealand and ensure that Standards and Specifications are upheld.
A key focus of this position is the curation and management of data that underpin the sustainable management of New Zealand’s fishery resources. The position also includes leading and managing a group of science staff, taking responsibility for staff mentoring and career development, general staff management (including performance reviews) and supporting regional management.
To be successful for this role, you will:
- Be familiar with designing and undertaking biological sampling programmes,
- Have knowledge of fisheries science and management,
- Be familiar with fisheries data and data management requirements,
- Have well-developed database design skills in design and implementation of data quality standards,
- Have a proven people management skills and expertise.
