The National University of Singapore recently announced the establishment of Department of Food Science and Technology in the Faculty of Science. Elevated from the earlier Food Science and Technology Programme that was established in 1999 in the same Faculty, this new department is poised to continue its success over the past 20 years. The new department is Singapore’s first Department of Food Science and Technology in the university sector. With the new department, there shall be a significant expansion in both education and research to help Singapore to achieve food resilience and security as well as to advance Singapore’s food industry.

The Department of Food Science and Technology would like to invite applications for tenure-track faculty positions in the following twelve (12) areas at the level of assistant/associate/full professor:

Food biotech & biotransformation
Dietetics & chronic diseases
Food engineering & smart processing
Molecular sensory & consumer science
Food hydrocolloids & material science
Food safety & metagenomics
Nutrigenomics & nutrigenetics
Plant molecular genetics and physiology
Intelligent food packaging
Microbiome & probiotics
Nutritional immunology & toxicology
Community nutrition & public health

Applicants should possess a PhD degree in Food Science & Technology or related field from an internationally reputable university. Postdoctoral experience of at least 2 years is required and industrial experience is highly valued. Appointee will be expected to establish an independent research program that can compete strongly for external funding. In addition, the appointee is expected to guide research students, and teach undergraduate and postgraduate subjects. Selection will be based on applicant’s track record of relevant accomplishments and potential for outstanding future contributions.

Expatriate faculty members are offered a very attractive remuneration package at the National University of Singapore, including subsidized partially-furnished accommodation and 28-day annual leave. Special schemes are also available for returning Singaporean academics and researchers from overseas.

Appointment and starting salary are commensurate with the relevant qualifications and experience.
