Faculty Positions in Advanced Technologies for Molecular Profiling and Functional Models of Disease

Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai (ISMMS), MSHS

New York, NY, United States

Faculty positions (all ranks) in advanced technologies for molecular profiling and functional models of disease

Mount Sinai, located in New York, NY is seeking exceptional Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor faculty candidates to lead ambitious technology driven research programs in the Department of Genetics and Genomic Sciences and the Icahn Institute for Data Science and Genomic Technology (datascience.icahn.mssm.edu).

As biomedical research becomes an increasingly data-intensive science, success will require a goal-directed, team-oriented approach. We seek faculty members interested in working in a fast paced, highly collaborative environment in which interdisciplinary teams of data scientists, technology innovators, and experts in key diseases work together with the shared goal of leveraging large-scale data, coupled with applications of advanced genomic technologies, to predict, test, and translate novel therapies faster and more effectively.

Mount Sinai is ranked as one of the nation’s top biomedical institutions in research, patient care, education. Since 2011, Mount Sinai has made major investments to attract world class people and build state of the art resources for research in biomedical data science and advanced technology development.

Faculty recruits will be appointed in the vibrant Department of Genetics and Genomic Sciences (GGS), which is currently the 5th ranked genetics department nationally based in NIH funding. Based on work in GGS and the closely affiliated Icahn Institute, Mount Sinai was recently recognized as the 4th most innovative data science organization in the world by Fast Company. Faculty members in GGS and the Icahn Institute also benefit from state-of-the-art facilities supporting the development and application of advanced molecular profiling and functional screening technologies, and access to banked and prospective samples from across one of the largest health systems in the country.

We are seeking exceptional faculty candidates to develop novel technologies to profile disease samples at a molecular level, and to create functional models of disease that recapitulate the effect of therapeutic interventions. We are interested in innovators across a broad array of focus areas, including methods to improve the resolution (i.e. single cell), cost, throughput, accuracy, or integration of technologies to quantify molecular moieties including genomics, epigenomics, immunologic factors, metabolomics, proteomics, microbiome, or other key disease-related molecules.

We are also interested in innovators specializing in multiple areas of functional model development, including immunologic models, tissue engineering approaches, microfluidics, and high throughput screening technologies.

Candidates may focus on any medically relevant application area, including: cancer biology; cancer immunotherapy; neurological and psychiatric diseases; immunologic disease; and 5) cardiovascular disease.

Applications should include a CV, research plan, and cover letter. In the cover letter, please clearly state your area of research interest.

Applicants should have a Ph.D. in a relevant scientific discipline. M.D. or M.D./Ph.D. candidates with advanced training are also encouraged to apply.

We are recruiting for both tenure track and non-tenure track (research track) faculty candidates. Tenure track candidates are expected to obtain independent funding to grow and sustain their research program. Research track candidates are expected to lead core data science initiatives of the Icahn Institute and contribute to funding applications, without an expectation of obtaining independent funding. Please specify if you are interested in being considered for one or both positions. Applications will be considered for tenure track positions by default.

We offer highly competitive recruitment packages, strong institutional commitments to faculty support, comprehensive benefits, relocation services, and a rewarding work and life environment. The Icahn School of Medicine is located in the heart of Manhattan with offices one block from central park.

Review of applications will begin immediately, and will remain open until positions are filled.
