Tsinghua Shenzhen International Graduate School (Tsinghua SIGS) was launched in March 2019. As Tsinghua University’s sole campus located outside of Beijing. Tsinghua SIGS is a further expansion and integration of the Tsinghua Graduate School at Shenzhen (GSST) and the Tsinghua-Berkeley Shenzhen Institute (TBSI).
Our mission is to reshape graduate education as well as research and development to better serve local, national, regional, and global sustainable development. Tsinghua SIGS will nurture the next generations of global leaders, tackle global challenges through international collaborations, and facilitate interdisciplinary research and industrial partnerships.
2. Theme Areas
1) Energy and Materials
The vision is to closely integrate the development trend of materials science with the national strategic requirements and industrial needs, make breakthrough the bottlenecks in material applications, and promote the technological innovations in structure-function integration, intelligence and flexibility, and green manufacturing of advanced materials, by taking advantages of the economic and innovative strengths of Shenzhen City. In order to meet the increasing demands in the important fields such as energy, information technology, healthcare, aerospace and deep sea applications, the faculty is devoted to developing cutting-edge material systems, including but not limited to materials design and predictions by theory and computation, flexible low-dimensional materials and devices, advanced energy materials, new functional materials for information technology, and biomedical materials. The mission is to build up a global research center in advanced functional materials, to form an international first-class discipline in China, to establish a world-class base that cultivates leading scientists and industrial talents with multidisciplinary vision.

3) Biopharmaceutical and Health Engineering
Institute of Biopharmaceutical and Health Engineering (iBHE) aims to explore frontiers of life technology and engineering for human wellness and meet the practical needs and long-term development strategy of building a “Healthy China” as well as the biotechnology industry in Shenzhen. Strategy of iBHE is to build an internationally first-class disciplines for providing comprehensive science solution and awareness-based revolutionary technologies for human health and happiness by integrating life science, medical science, pharmaceutical engineering, bioengineering, biomedical engineering, chemical engineering, control engineering, materials engineering, artificial intelligence, translational medicine and other advanced discipline clusters. iBHE will focus on the development of four directions including biopharmaceutical engineering, vaccine manufacturing, health engineering and translational medicine. iBHE will build a world-class talent team and create new interdisciplinary education system of biopharmaceutical and health engineering.

The Future Human Habitat is an innovative discipline to be launched in autumn 2020. It draws upon the boundary-crossing among a cluster of disciplines and focuses on advanced technologies and cutting-edge ideas related to design issues of future human lives. The discipline centers on design research as its ethos and endeavors to envision and create more intelligent and sustainable built environment. The discipline builds on the strengths and opportunities of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and the city of Shenzhen by bringing together leading technologies and possibilities of practice to generate and experiment with design knowledge for future human habitat. The discipline will focus on Future city research (including Urban science and computer, City energy system, City intelligent management, Health and city), Digital architecture and Intelligent construction, and Innovation in technology and humanity on Future Human Habitats.

4. Annual salary
RMB 450,000 – 1,200,000 or above (pre-tax, depending on entry level and research areas).
5. Research Start-up Package
RMB 1,000,000-5,000,000, (depending on entry level and research areas). The extraordinary talents may apply for higher amounts based on requirements.
6. Relocation Reimbursement
Tsinghua SIGS will provide relocation reimbursement for qualified faculty ranging from RMB 300,000 – 400,000 (pre-tax).
7. Student and Postdoctoral Recruitment
Tsinghua SIGS will finance 1-2 Ph.D. student and provide competitive salary package for post-doctoral researcher for faculty member.
• A doctoral or equivalent degree in relevant academic area is required.
• At least two-year overseas study and work experience is required.
• At least two-year working experience at a world-leading university or research institute is required.
• Research experience across various fields and institutions and strong teaching performance are preferred.
• Candidates should be able to demonstrate strong communication, teaching and leadership skills in English as well as the ability to actively contribute to the rapidly growing research efforts at Tsinghua SIGS.
• A strong commitment to teaching and supervising postgraduate students is essential. Teaching responsibilities will include participation in and development of graduate courses and strong engagement with Tsinghua SIGS’s core curriculum. Supervision of PhD and MSc students and academic mentoring of trainees at all levels is also expected.
