Georg-Speyer-Haus - Institute for Tumor Biology and Experimental Therapy

Frankfurt am Main, Hessen, Germany

A Postdoc position is available in the laboratory of Dr. Hind Medyouf, an EMBO Young Investigator and ERC grant holder based at the Institute for tumor Biology and Experimental Therapy, Georg-Speyer-Haus (GSH), in Frankfurt, Germany. The laboratory is also part of the newly funded Frankfurt Cancer Institute (FCI and is primarily focused on exploring the role of the microenvironment in hematological malignancies.

Project:The specific project aims to characterize the contribution of the bone-marrow niche environment to immune-suppression in hematological malignancies and to use this knowledge to better understand the mechanisms of immune-evasion in leukemia. The over-arching goal is to use the gained insights to design immune-based combination treatment strategies that are tailored to specific disease contexts.

The experimental portfolio of the group ranges from in vitro (2D & 3D) functional and molecular assays, to in vivo animal experimentation using a large number of genetically engineered syngeneic mouse models. The project offers a unique opportunity to mechanistically dissect immune-evasion mechanisms using both mouse models and clinical samples for validation studies and experimentation in humanized settings.

What we offer: A clinically relevant research project with high potential for therapeutic translation in an inspiring international research team. The successful candidate will work in close collaboration with other researchers in our group and also interact with external collaborators, including clinical and industrial partners.

The laboratory has access to state-of-the-art facilities (available at GSH, FCI, DKTK/DKFZ and EMBL) and is part of the German Cancer Consortium (DKTK thus offering a vibrant and highly stimulating work environment. Moreover, as part of an EMBO Young Investigator team, the postdoc will have ample opportunities to participate in EMBO organized training courses, networking events, sectorial meetings and the possibility to expand expertise through short stays in the laboratories of other EMBO members.

The institute is located in the heart of Frankfurt providing a very stimulating, friendly and international environment. The working language is English.

Qualifications and Experience: We are looking for a talented, highly motivated and dedicated candidate, with a strong interest in translational research. A solid background in cancer biology and/or immunology as well as expertise in working with mice is required. Please send your CV, a statement of prior experience/research interests (1 page max) and the contact details of two references to:
