EU-funded Postdoc and Research Engineer positions in CO2 Capture using Gas Fermentation

BACKGROUND

The ERA Chair in Gas Fermentation Technologies (GasFermTEC) was established at the University of Tartu (UT), Estonia with EU-funds (~2.5m Euro) in 2019 with the aim to address global challenges of biosustainability through integration of gas fermentation technologies with systems and synthetic biology. This project builds upon the recently developed cutting-edge systems biology platform for systematic quantification of CO2 capture using acetogen gas fermentation (Valgepea et al. 2017, Cell Systems; Valgepea et al. 2017, Metabolic Engineering; Valgepea et al. 2018, Biotechnology for Biofuels; Lemgruber, Valgepea et al. 2019 Metabolic Engineering; Lemgruber, Valgepea et al. 2019 bioRxiv). GasFermTEC also collaborates with the biotechnology industry leader in gas fermentation LanzaTech for developing sustainable waste-to-chemical bioprocesses.

 

UT is seeking for a Postdoc and a Research Engineer to lead systems-level quantification of CO2 capture using acetogen gas fermentation. Duration of positions is 2 years with potential extension. Positions report to Dr Kaspar Valgepea, Group Leader at GasFermTEC.

 

DUTIES

Postdoc and Research Engineer will be involved in quantifying the effects of bioprocess conditions on CO2 capture and engineering its conversion into chemicals in acetogen gas fermentation using systems biology tools.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

UT is seeking for highly motivated, creative, and ambitious researchers with experience in microbiology. Experience in systems biology and operating bioreactors is a plus. A PhD (for PD) or an MSc (for RE) in Biological Sciences, Chemical Engineering, or in a related field is required.
