JCNS – Jülich Centre for Neutron Science
Area of research:
Scientific / postdoctoral posts
You work as a staff member within the HBS project (High Brilliance neutron Source) for compact accelerator driven neutron source for research applications at JCNS. Within this project you work on the simulation of the nuclear processes involved in this neutron source and the influences on the emitted radiation to the environment. You provide crucial theoretical parameters for the development of the proposed neutron source and the radiation shielding. You are involved closely in the engineering outline of the neutron source and contribute to the design and the relevant safety requirements for the construction an secure operation of this kind of facility. You participate in the preparation of a Technical Design Report for this large-scale project, you develop new concepts and technologies that have not yet been realized before, and you bring these into operation as a part of the HBS project team.
You have successfully completed your university studies (Bachelor or Master) in engineering or natural sciences. You have expertise in one or more of the following areas: Nuclear engineering or expertise in the simulation of nuclear processes, knowledge and expertise in corresponding simulation platforms (MCNPX, GEANT4, FLUKA), radiation safety and biological shielding including design and construction (CAD CAM) or willingness to acquire knowledge and expertise in these fields. You can work interdisciplinary in a small team and you don’t mind to search for experts in the institute and in the entire research centre that support you in the solution of upcoming problems. You have good language skills in English and you are ready to communicate in English at work. In addition, you are ready to perform business trips in Germany and abroad and to work as a radiation-exposed worker under the supervision of our health and safety protection organization.
Participation in a completely new forward-looking large-scale project. HBS as an innovative project gives you the opportunity of a personal contribution in an early phase and to develop your own profile Exciting working environment on an attractive research campus, well located in the triangle Cologne-Düsseldorf-Aachen Support by the excellent infrastructure of a big public research centre that is part of an international cooperation network Development of your personal skills International and interdisciplinary working atmosphere Flexible working hours and various opportunities to reconcile work and private life Limited for 2 years with possible longer-term prospects Full-time position with the option of slightly reduced working hours Salary and social benefits in conformity with the provisions of the Collective Agreement for the Civil Service (TVöD)
Forschungszentrum Jülich aims to employ more women in this area and therefore particularly welcomes applications from women. We also welcome applications from disabled persons.
