Your Role

The successful candidates will join a strong and motivated research team lead by Prof. Gilbert Fridgen. They will carry out research in the context of the Medical Device Obligations Taskforce (MDOT) research project. MDOT is a research project funded by the EU Programme for Research and Innovation (Horizon 2020) that aims to support small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in the medical device industry to meet the requirements of the medical device regulation. In particular, we design and develop a platform that enables SMEs to collaborate on conformity tests of their products, e.g., by exchanging test data about the conformity of commonly used materials. Thereby successful candidates will pursue a doctoral degree on the following topics:

  • Design and development of blockchain-based data marketplaces
  • Understanding conformity assessment process in the medical device industry
  • Modelling and implementing decentralized information flows

The position holder will be required to perform the following tasks:

  • Carrying out research in the predefined areas
  • Designing and developing a prototype for a blockchain-based marketplace
  • Disseminating results through scientific publications
  • Participating in proposal drafting
  • Assisting in the preparation of relevant workshops

Your Profile

Qualification: The candidate should possess a M.Sc. degree or equivalent in Information Systems Engineering, Medical Informatics, or Computer Science, who are interested in working at the intersection of digitalization and management. We require commitment, team working, and a critical mind of the candidate. Proven research experience will be considered as an advantage (publications, awards, and other relevant aspects included in the CV will be considered).

Experience: The ideal candidate should have some knowledge and experience in one of thefollowing topics:

  • Software architectures and software engineering
  • Interest in data markets and distributed systems

Knowledge in the following areas is advantageous but not mandatory:

  • Research on systems engineering
  • Knowledge in Blockchain and distributed ledger technologies
  • Knowledge in eHealth

Language Skills: Fluent written and verbal communication skills in English are required. Knowledge of either French, German or Luxembourgish is desirable but no prerequisite.

The University offers a Ph.D. study program with an initial contract of 36 months, with a further possible 1-year extension if required, on full time basis (40hrs/week).
