Deputy Editor, The Lancet Gastroenterology & Hepatology

The Lancet Gastroenterology & Hepatology is looking for a full-time, in-house Deputy Editor to join the editorial team in our London office. Working alongside the Editor-in-Chief you will be responsible for assisting in the development of one of the leading journals in gastroenterology and hepatology. To help us to build on the success of the journal, we are seeking an individual who has a deep understanding of their subject and broader interest in the field. The key responsibilities of the role are to help oversee the quality of peer review and publication of the most relevant research with the potential to influence clinical practice.

  • Assisting in all aspects of the organisation and preparation of The Lancet Gastroenterology & Hepatology, both online and 12 issues per year in print.
  • Deputise for the Editor in his/her absence.
  • Assist the Editor with decisions on which new submissions should be considered for publication, and help the Editor develop editorial strategy.
  • Assist the Editor with timely production of 48 Articles a year, linked Comments and Correspondence, and Editorial.
  • Commission Comment and Review content as necessary. Responsibility for timely production of a minimum of 24 Review papers a year.
  • News and Editorial writing, sub-editing, proof checking, and cross-reading.
  • Organise peer review of articles and other written material, and negotiating with authors.
  • Develop and maintain links with the gastroenterology and hepatology communities to solicit high-quality research, especially clinical trials, for the journal.
  • Attendance of conferences and other events, to represent the journal, to identify suitable topics and authors, and to keep up-to-date with current developments in gastroenterology and hepatology.
  • The ideal candidate will have an MD or a PhD or equivalent in a related life science and will have publishing experience.
