Phoenix Children’s Hospital (PCH) and the University of Arizona College of Medicine – Phoenix (College of Medicine) seek a distinguished, collaborative and dynamic academic leader with a substantial record of research, teaching, clinical and administrative accomplishments as its next Department Chair of Child Health and Senior Vice President of Research at PCH. This is an exciting opportunity for an innovative and highly respected physician-scientist to develop a vision and guide the advancement of research and education at one of the nation’s top pediatric programs.

Located in the Phoenix metropolitan area, PCH is a world class 433-bed complex care pediatric hospital with four specialty and urgent care centers and 22 outpatient treatment centers. The hospital provides multidisciplinary care across 33 primary pediatric specialties and 55 pediatric sub-specialty fields. This excellence in care has been nationally recognized by the U.S. News and World Report for seven years in row, and achieved 10 out of 10 badges for subspecialty care in 2018-2019.

The College of Medicine campus is a 10 minute drive from PCH in vibrant downtown Phoenix. The campus houses pediatric research laboratories in the newly opened Bioscience Partnership Building (BSPB). The College of Medicine serves as the academic engine to further excellence across clinical, research, service and educational missions. The College of Medicine is a fully accredited college with 22 basic and clinical departments and three centers. To date, the College of Medicine has graduated over 500 physicians and sponsors multiple graduate medical education programs, including the highly competitive combined Internal Medicine-Pediatrics residency program with PCH.

The Department of Child Health serves as a rich educational and research environment spanning across 28 subspecialties. The Department houses 509 faculty who practice across PCH and the teaching sites of the College of Medicine. The Department trains over 175 residents and fellows in addition to providing robust medical student education. Research in the Department of Child Health ranges from basic laboratory research to clinical outcomes research performed by 94 investigators with extramurally funded projects, 478 open IRB-approved studies and 400 annual publications. 

The incoming Chair will have the ability to substantially grow research and advance educational excellence through collaboration, a strong vision and leadership. The successful candidate will be clinically active in an area of expertise and will have achieved distinction for their nationally-known, extramurally-funded research program. In addition, s/he will possess outstanding interpersonal and communication skills.
