Imperial College London is one of the world’s leading science-focused universities, committed to making advances in research and education and lasting contributions to society. A global institution in outlook and reach, Imperial has three faculties: Engineering, Medicine and Natural Sciences – and the Imperial College Business School, an annual income of over £1 billion and considerable ambition for its future.
The Faculty of Natural Sciences enjoys an outstanding reputation for high quality research and education. Employing over 1, 300 staff, with approximately 4, 600 students and with a research income in excess of £70m, it is home to the departments of Chemistry, Mathematics, Physics and Life Sciences, as well as the Centre for Environmental Policy and the Grantham Institute for Climate Change and the Environment. The College offers significant opportunities for cross-disciplinary collaborations and, in pursuing a truly multidisciplinary approach, the Faculty addresses some of the world’s most challenging problems.
The College is now seeking to appoint a Dean to lead the Faculty, responsible for ensuring that its research and teaching remains at a world-leading level and promoting excellence in all of the Departments’ activities. The Dean will work collaboratively with both internal and external partners. Reporting to the Provost, the Dean will be a member of the Provost’s Board and College Council and will play an important role in setting wider College Strategy and managing its implementation.
Candidates will demonstrate exceptional leadership ability, possess an outstanding reputation in research in a relevant area, be experienced in teaching and engagement and have considerable personal credibility. With a deep understanding of the key opportunities and challenges in developing a world-class Faculty, the Dean will drive its capabilities and its international status. As a senior post holder, the Dean will be a role model for Imperial Expectations, the College’s behavioural principles.
