DESY is one of the world’s leading research centres for photon science, particle and astroparticle physics as well as accelerator physics. More than 2400 employees work at our two locations Hamburg and Zeuthen in science, technology and administration.

The IT group at the DESY site in Zeuthen near Berlin is responsible for the institute’s IT infrastructure. In addition, the group also supports the projects of the scientific groups.

The position

System administration for the CTA Array Control and Data Acquisition (ACADA) software development environmentInstallation and maintenance of the ACADA continuous test environment and quality control platformImplementation of procedures for deploying software artifacts, libraries and related services as well as the implementation of web services for CTA considering security aspectsInstallation and maintenance of a binary repository managerOrganization of the integration of subsystems into the ACADA system in cooperation with the sub-systems expertsProvision of the ACADA system as a ready to use and installable unitCoordination of the testing of the ACADA software including the specification and execution of the software testing at ACADA work package levelDevelopment and maintenance of virtual machines and containers


Completed scientific higher education in computer science, information technology, mathematics or physics or equivalent knowledge and qualificationExcellent knowledge and skills in Linux operating systems and their system administrationA wide experience of software developmentGood knowledge of web services and web applicationsSound expertise in programming and scripting languagesGood knowledge of software tests (unit tests, integration, system, acceptance testing) and software quality controlExperience in the operation of containersDevOps mentalityVery good knowledge of English spoken and written

Salary and benefits are commensurate with those of public service organisations in Germany. Classification is based upon qualifications and assigned duties.
