The Role of Chief Genetic Laboratory Manager, Department of Clinical Genetics, CHI at Crumlin

An exciting opportunity has arisen for the Lead role of Chief Genetic Laboratory Manager who will take overall responsibility for all scientific leadership, management and development of all aspects of the Genetics Laboratories. This encompasses both the Molecular and Cytogenetics Laboratories. This key role will provide oversight in the provision of the day to day Clinical Genetics Laboratory service and will be a critical element of the post. The Chief Genetic Laboratory Manager will lead/chair the Genetics Laboratory Management group, which will set service, quality and strategic scientific objectives for the Genetics laboratories. An essential aspect of the role will be to monitor KPIs and progress towards achieving these objectives, including maintaining accreditation to ISO 15189.

A National Genetics and Genomic Medicine Network (NGGMN) is to be established by the HSE in Ireland. This will be in a hub and spoke construct (as set out in the Smith Report, 2015). This network will facilitate development of a nationally coordinated service for Genetics and Genomics which will be founded on evidence based practice and ensure equity of access to high quality care. Central to this new model of care, will be the existing and evolving Department of Clinical Genetics based at CHI. This is an exciting time for the development of Clinical Genetic and Genomic services in Ireland.
