Early Disease Detection Research Project UK
Appointment of Chief Executive Officer
The Early Disease Detection Research Project UK (EDDRP UK) is a major new initiative that emerged from the Life Sciences Industrial Strategy. This high-visibility UK initiative will result in the establishment of the world’s largest research cohort of 5 million volunteers who will participate in studies focussed on identifying individuals at risk of the major chronic diseases. The initiative will seek to demonstrate the utility of new approaches that can be used to identify individuals at risk of common diseases and the technology that allows the early detection of disease. The project has strong financial support from UKRI and the Department of Health, as well as support from major disease charities and both diagnostic and pharmaceutical companies. It forms an important component of the second Life Sciences Sector Deal. The budget for the project will be approximately £300 million. This project involves working closely with the NHS and will, where consented and actionable, return data to research participants.
EDDRP UK will provide a transformational research platform integrating clinical, genetic, behavioural, and environmental data acquired from volunteers in order to study the sources of health and disease, leading to the development of innovative approaches to early detection and prevention of disease.
