Institute for Nuclear Waste Disposal (INE)
Area of research:
Scientific / postdoctoral posts
The objective of the work is to determine the sorption of the radionuclides 14C, 231Pa, and 113Snon rock samples of the overburden of a site potentially containing nuclear waste. The work is part of a third-party funded project and aims at giving a comprehensive description of the retention of these nuclides in the cap rock of the site. Furthermore, the sorption reactions will be studied on a fundamental scientific level in order to identify the relevant sorption mechanisms.
Relevant aspects of your work include:
Planning and conducting systematic sorption and desorption experiments on radionuclides with rock samples of the overburden. Preparation of batch experiments with selected rock samplesPrecise measurement of the pH, the redox potential and of the radionuclide concentrations of the aqueous solution. Analysis of the investigated solid phases as required.Determination of the sorption and desorption coefficientsPlanning and implementation of experimental studies to analyze sorption mechanisms Application of modern spectroscopic methodsInterpretation of the results and derivation of a mechanistic process understandingCooperation in the reporting within the scope of the third-party projectPublication of the results in peer reviewed journals
You hold a university degree (diploma (Uni), master) and a doctorate in chemistry, geochemistry or earth sciences. In addition, you have several years of work experience in the field of the geochemistry of radionuclides, in the implementation and evaluation of sorption experiments and a profound knowledge of chemical and radiochemical analytical methods. Several years of experience in the handling of open radioactive sources, (alpha emitters) and in the analytics of surfaces and solids are expected. Adequate English language skills (spoken, written) as well as the ability to perform lab work independently are desirable. High working motivation and the ability to work in teams complete your profile..
Salary category 13, depending on the fulfillment of professional and personal requirements.
