The appointment will be on UCL Grade Consultant Clinical Academic. The salary range will be Consultant Clinical Academic pay scale £80,075 to £107,204 per annum OR Non-Clinical professorial scale £70,420 to £87,272 per annum, inclusive of London Allowance.
We are seeking to appoint an internationally excellent scientist with an outstanding track record of research relevant to Haematological malignancies in children. This may be a clinical or non-clinical appointment. If a clinician is appointed, they will have clinical responsibilities at GOSH. The Great Ormond Street Children’s Charity Professor in Paediatric Haemato – Oncology will be part of a UCL wide Programme in Haemato-oncology that spans Paediatric, teenage and adult malignancies and is sited across GOS ICH, GOSH, the UCL Cancer Institute and the Centre for Immunity and Transplantation at the Royal Free Hospital. The programme includes strengths in Leukemogenesis but also for the development of more and gene- and cell- based therapies for the treatment of malignancies. This is underpinned by significant investment in cell and vector manufacturing units. The new post will complement and strengthen the existing academic and clinical expertise in all aspects of Paediatric Haemato – oncology including understanding of basic science and translation to novel therapeutics and development of precision medicine. State of the art laboratory facilities are available at UCL GOS Institute of Child Health, Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children NHS Foundation Trust, the Zayed Centre for Rare Diseases and the UCL Cancer Institute. The post holder will have a leadership role in the design, implementation, presentation and reporting of research/studies, working closely with other senior scientific staff in the Developmental Biology & Cancer Programme and colleagues across the Faculty and GOS ICH. It is expected that their expertise will complement and add value to the existing strength in, and planned repertoire of, Haemato – Oncology research, teaching and capacity building undertaken by the Institute.
The successful applicant will be of international standing and have an impressive track record in research, together with experience of running research programmes, academic management and strategic planning. The post is open to clinical and non-clinical academics. The candidate must hold a higher academic degree MD/MS or PhD or evidence of an equivalent level of attainment in research publications in high impact journals. The appointee will be expected already to have developed a high quality research programme in a field relevant to childhood haematology research, including the securing of external grant funding, publication in high impact journals, and the supervision of postgraduate students. The successful applicant would also have an excellent track record of publications as lead author in high quality peer-reviewed scientific and/or clinical journals.
