The University of Bristol is seeking to appoint a Chair in Academic Research Quality and Improvement, supported by a major philanthropic donation:
This new post will play a key role in establishing and leading a research centre, which will explore the factors that strengthen the robustness of scientific research and identify ways in which to integrate those as standard components of research practice in the UK and internationally. We are particularly keen to attract individuals from industry.
The research centre will comprise the Chair and at least six research fellows (over a period of ten years) and will also be linked to at least six PhD studentships, at Bristol and other institutions. Its work will build on the activities of the UK Reproducibility Network (UKRN; www.ukrn.org), which promotes the adoption of initiatives intended to improve research quality.
The Chair is expected to work with the University to secure external funding for the research centre, including support for at least three of the research fellows. The Chair will be supported by a steering group that will provide oversight and guidance, and will include representation from external academic, industry and other partners.
