Starting Salary £25,767 to £43,197, depending on experience, plus relocation allowance and Visa costs paid for Skilled Worker visa if required.
The CRUK Beatson Institute is a cancer research institute situated in Glasgow with approximately 250 researchers split across 30 research groups consisting of PIs, postdoctoral scientists, PhD students and scientific officers. It is one of Europe’s leading cancer research centres, supporting cutting-edge work into the molecular mechanisms of cancer development. As well as core support from Cancer Research UK, the Institute also receives an additional third of its total income from external grants and industry collaborations. It has an excellent reputation for fundamental cancer research, including world-class metabolism studies and renowned in vivo modelling of tumour growth and metastasis. The Proteomics Advanced Technology Facility are seeking a senior bioinformatician to bring their skills and experience in the analysis of different types of quantitative mass spectrometry proteomic data, including data obtained from basic biology, pre-clinical and clinical studies. The ideal candidate will also have a flair for data-representation and be passionate about using and developing innovative ways to better communicate multilevel data with scientists.
You will join a highly collaborative, dynamic, and inclusive environment in which computational biologists, software engineers and statisticians work closely with bench- and clinical scientists to develop a better understanding of the processes underpinning cancer pathology. You may also contribute to developing cross-platform data analyses that enable integration of large-scale datasets generated by modern-omics technologies.
The successful applicant must have a PhD in a relevant field (e.g. bioinformatics, computer science). Previous experience in functional proteomics and biomedical research is highly recommended, and experience in all or most of the following would be an advantage:
1. Demonstrable ability to work in relevant programming languages (e.g. R)
2. Experience in data visualisation
3. Experience in database creation and administration
4. Knowledge of modern statistical approaches
5. Excellent communication skills and an ability to work in an inter-disciplinary research environment
6. Integrating data from multiple platforms
7. Machine learning and artificial intelligence for mass spectrometry data analysis and biomarker discovery
