Context of intervention

The Luxembourg Institute of Science and Technology (LIST) is appointing a bioengineer in agronomy with a broad knowledge on plant production and plant protection technologies. The successful candidate will join the “Environmental Research and Innovation” (ERIN) department. With a team of more than 180 scientists and engineers from life science, environmental science, and IT science, the department has the necessary interdisciplinary knowledge and skills to tackle major environmental challenges our society is facing today: climate change mitigation, ecosystem resilience, sustainable energy systems, efficient use of renewable resources, environmental pollution prevention and control.

This position is opened to replace an absence for work exemption followed with a maternity leave. The selected applicant will be part of the Environmental Sensing and Modelling Unit of the Environmental Research and Innovation (ERIN) department, and more specifically will work in the Agro-Environmental Systems research group. The team’s main RDI activities relate to the development of models and methods for reducing pesticide use based on environmental, agronomic, molecular and remote sensing data without jeopardizing the supply of high-quality plant materials for green industries.


The candidate will be incorporated to the Agro-Environmental Systems research group and will contribute to its RDI projects. She/he will be expected to intervene on the following missions:
Contribution to RDI projects
  • Support activities in the domain of applied entomology such as identification and classification of insects sampled at various locations
  • Participate in disease assessment, sampling and harvesting campaigns in vineyards, wheat and barley fields
  • Manage a mycology laboratory including the management of equipment, ordering of chemicals, management of stocks
  • Participate in the maintenance and further expansion of two data bases with information on a national and a European fungal strain collection (
  • Characterise fungal strains using PCR, sequencing, sequence analyses and electrophoresis
  • Participate in the sample preparation for chemical analyses of agronomic matrices
  • Participate in technical meetings
  • Support the preparation of project reports, publications or patent drafts
  • Participate in the data management of the group and the department

Dissemination, valorisation and transfer
  • Participate in the drafting of reports, scientific articles or other documents
  • Participate to the definition of proofs of concepts and development of prototypes


  • Master in agronomy/agriculture or related field

Required seniority
  • Previous work experience is not mandatory

  • Background in agronomy, crop protection, plant physiology, molecular biology
  • Previous experience or training in microbiology or mycology, PCR, sequencing, sequence analyses, electrophoresis, practical experience in entomology and plant pathology will be considered as an asset
  • Driving licence (B)

  • Fluency in English (spoken and written)
  • German or French is an asset
