Healx is a fast-growing Cambridge, UK biotech combining artificial intelligence and deep pharmacology expertise to identify existing drugs that may treat rare diseases, enabling treatments to be found at a fraction of the time and cost of traditional drug discovery. There are over 7,000 rare diseases affecting an estimated 350 million people worldwide, most of these diseases lack an effective treatment. We are progressing our own portfolio of repurposed drugs, working closely with patient groups and charities to understand clinical unmet need and how best to progress treatments to the clinic.
We are looking for someone to bring additional skills and expertise to our existing group of experienced biocurators. You will work in cross-functional teams contributing across the pipeline to the disease selection and drug discovery processes. This is an exciting opportunity to apply your rare disease knowledge and biocuration experience directly to drug discovery programmes that have the potential to make a real impact on the quality of patient’s lives.
You will perform detailed evaluation of rare disease biology, clinical unmet needs and current treatment paradigms to help select rare disease projects. You will participate at various stages of the drug repurposing pipeline including gathering omics datasets and capturing disease relevant biology to fuel our drug matching algorithms. The role is highly collaborative, requiring regular interaction with a team of pharmacologists, bioinformaticians and software developers.
You will use our internal tools to capture curated information in a structured manner and contribute to strategies for improving our curation protocols and tools. There will be opportunities to learn about drug repurposing strategies and rare disease biology.
You should have a background in the life sciences, ideally with some exposure and experience of disease biology and/or drug discovery. Thorough understanding of molecular and cell biology is essential.
PhD preferred or undergrad with 5+ years of relevant experience.
You should be detail-oriented with strong comprehension and reading skills and the ability to quickly and accurately interpret scientific knowledge from the literature and from within databases.
Experience in biocuration/data organisation and familiarity with ontologies is desirable but not essential.
Full-time/Part-time and flexible working options will be considered.
