Associate Professorships (x2) in Systems Biology and Cancer Biology at the University of Pavia, Italy
The Department of Molecular Medicine of the University of Pavia is a large Department hosting approximately 30 research groups active in both preclinical and clinical research programmes in the following fields of: (i) genetic diseases of the heart, bone and nervous system, (ii) degenerative diseases such as amyloidosis, Parkinson’s and Alzheimer caused by protein misfolding, (iii) cancer and, (iv) tissue and organ regeneration. The Department received core funding from the Italian Ministry for Education, Universities and Research (MIUR) under the recent Departments of Excellence Initiative , coordinates a new international PhD Programme in Translational Medicine and has access to state of the art equipment for molecular and cellular research in the central University Core Equipment Facility including high performance computing, super resolution light microscopy, cryo electron microscopy, mass spectrometry, X-ray crystallography, cell sorting and pre-clinical in vivo imaging (MRI and micro-CT).
The Department seeks to appoint two new members of staff to the following tenured positions:
MM01. Associate Professor in Systems Biology (starting gross salary: € 54,034 per year).
The person appointed will have a strong track record in systems biology or related fields of research and will build a strong research programme involving both computational and experimental systems biology approaches to the study of tissue/organ development, regeneration, inflammation, degenerative diseases or cancer.
MM02. Associate Professor in Cancer Biology (starting gross salary: € 54,034 per year).
The person appointed will have made original contributions to the molecular or cellular basis of cancer and will build a strong research programme in areas such as cancer genetics, epigenetics, progression, metastasis, microenvironment or cancer immunity.
The above positions are partly funded by the Italian Ministry of Education, Universities and Research (MIUR) and it is a requirement for application that candidates are:
(i) currently employed in an Institution located outside Italy and,
(ii) have held an Associate Professor post at the University where they are currently employed or an equivalent role at a Research Institute for at least three years.
Appointees are expected to contribute to the teaching of undergraduate medical students enrolled in the Harvey Course , a leading medical course at the University of Pavia taught in English. They will have access to a pool of internal studentships and post-doctoral fellowships offered on an annual and competitive basis by the University of Pavia and are expected to secure external funding for their research programmes from national and international sources of funding.
