We seek a trained scientist to join the Division of Genetics and Genomics at BCH as Associate Director for Research. The Division of Genetics and Genomics comprises more than 25 faculty affiliated with Harvard Medical School, with an equal mixture of clinically and laboratory-based faculty, with an annual research budget of >$20M per year. Research in the Division ranges from basic studies of developmental biology to clinical aspects of gene therapy, enzyme replacement, and novel approaches to the treatment of rare and orphan disease. There are especially strong programs in human disease gene discovery in pediatric medicine. The Division also houses the Manton Center for Orphan Disease Research, and the Allen Frontiers Center for Human Brain Evolution. Graduate students in the Division include members of Harvard’s Program in Neurosciences, Bioinformatics and Integrated Genomics, Biological and Biomedical Sciences, among others.
The Associate Director of Research will work with the Division Chief, the Division Manager, the Research Administrative Manager, and the Senior Faculty to promote the operations and execution of the scientific mission of the Division of Genetics and Genomics. Duties will include management and administration of funding opportunities, writing of scientific progress reports and donor reports, collaborating on divisional grant proposals, work on search committees, and scientific communication of new research findings for the public. The Associate Director of Research will also collaborate in administrative tasks, including planning scientific retreats, seminars, and symposia, and outreach activities. Finally, duties will include working with the Division Chief and Division Manager to ensure efficient space and facilities management for research laboratories. We expect this position to play a major role in realizing a strategy for growth of the Division. An MD or PhD in biological sciences, preferably relating to genetics or molecular biology, is required.
We especially encourage applications from women and minorities underrepresented in science.
Applications should include a cv, cover letter, and names of three references, and should be addressed to: Katharine Schneider, Division of Genetics and Genomics, Boston Children’s Hospital, Boston, MA. Email: Katharine.Schneider@childrens.harvard.edu.
