The United Arab Emirates University invites applications for a faculty position in the Department of Medical Microbiology & Immunology, College of Medicine and Health Sciences (CMHS). The position is for a Medical Microbiologist with an established track record of research accomplishments in the area of bacteriology. It is likely that the appointment will be at the rank of Assistant/Associate Professor. However, more senior applicants may apply with the possibility of being appointed at the level of Full Professor. The College of Medicine is housed in a purpose built state-of-the-art facility with the mission to “improve the health care and well-being of the UAE population through innovative medical and health sciences education, advanced research, and best practices in clinical services.” English is the language of instruction. Current research in the department focuses on antibiotic resistance, host-pathogen interactions, cancer immunology, autoimmune diseases, retroviral RNA packaging, dimerization, and regulation of retroviral gene expression, and oncogenic viruses, in particular EBV and its role in the pathogenesis of human diseases.
The successful candidate must have an MD/PhD or PhD with a strong track record of research in clinical or medical bacteriology and published their research findings in reputable journals. It is expected that the successful candidate will also have experience in teaching medical students, and preferably also postgraduate students. Relevant clinical experience and board certification would be an advantage, but not essential. Importantly, candidates must demonstrate the potential to establish an independent and sustained research program in their area of expertise and be able to obtain peer-reviewed internal and external funding. International collaboration is encouraged.
