Harvard Medical School (HMS)

Assistant/Associate Professor of Microbiology (Tenure-track)

Harvard Medical School Microbiology

Boston, MA, United States

The Department of Microbiology at Harvard Medical School (http://micro.hms.harvard.edu/) invites applications for tenure-track positions at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor. We seek outstanding scientists performing research in virology, bacteriology, and host-microbe interactions to join our Microbiology department.

The positions offer outstanding scholarly and scientific resources in a collegial and collaborative environment. There are exceptionally strong ties to related departments throughout Harvard University, the Harvard affiliated teaching hospitals, and the greater Boston biomedical research community. The positions provide the opportunity to join a vibrant community of microbiologists at Harvard University interested in molecular and quantitative approaches to fundamental microbiology, and the development of countermeasures against bacterial and viral infections, including antimicrobials and vaccines.

Successful candidates will become members of the Biological and Biomedical Sciences Program, and, if appropriate, the Program in Virology; both are campus wide degree programs dedicated to training and mentoring the next generation of microbiologists. Program members are afforded the opportunity to teach exceptional graduate and medical students interested in microbiology and medical sciences.

Candidates with a Ph.D., M.D., M.D./Ph.D., or an equivalent doctoral degree should submit a cover letter, C.V. (including a full bibliography), a concise one-page summary of research accomplishments, and a two-page summary of future research interests through the HMS user portal linked below. Applicants should also arrange for three letters of recommendation from reviewers who will receive separate instructions sent automatically by the portal.

Applications received by October 1 will be reviewed by the search committee.  A shortlist of candidates will be invited to present their research as part of a symposium to be held on December 12, 2019 followed by a day of individual meetings with current faculty members on December 13, 2019.
