Assistant Professorship (W1)
with Tenure-Track to an Associated Professorship (W2)
for Dynamics of Cellular Protein Complexes
The position is immediately available. The contract is initially limited to three years and can be extended to a total of six years. The tenure procedure towards an associated professorship (W2) can be initiated upon a successful interim evaluation. To obtain tenure, the applicant needs to fulfill requirements defined in the statutes and the quality assurance concept of the university and the subject-specific criteria defined by the faculty of medicine.
The successful applicant is expected to head a research group at the Biocentre at the University of Würzburg (Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology; Professor Martin Eilers https://www.biozentrum.uniwuerzburg. de/molbio/startseite/). We expect the applicant to lead an active research program, which focuses on dynamics of cellular protein complexes. Candidates must have a significant experience in solving protein structures, in analyzing posttranslational modifications of proteins, in chemical biology and/or in analyzing intracellular dynamics of proteins. We further expect an active participation in structuring future research initiatives together with previously established research institutions at the university. The professorship includes teaching for medical students as well as for the bachelor and master programs of biochemistry, biomedicine and molecular oncology.
The applicant must hold a degree in a relevant subject, for example in biology, biochemistry, medicine or human biology, She/he must have documented experience in scientific research; this usually corresponds to a Ph.D. degree in a research area related to the subject area of the professorship. She/he must also have documented experience in teaching (BayHSchPG Art.14.3).
The time spent as a Ph.D. student and as a scientific assistant should not exceed nine years (BayHSchPG Art.14.3). If the applicant did her/his Ph.D. at Julius-Maximilians University, she/he should have collected scientific expertise at another university for at least two years. The University of Würzburg puts a strong emphasis on intensive training of undergraduate and graduate students and expects active participation in teaching.
