The Department of Engineering (ENG) of Aarhus University (AU) is looking for an innovative and visionary Assistant Professor (tenure track) in the group of Geotechnical Engineering. This international top-100 University has made an ambitious strategic investment in a 5-year recruitment plan to place the University in direct competition with the global engineering elite. Therefore, the University is seeking researchers driven with vision, innovations, and technologies for the future, to join and expand our existing research environment in Civil and Architectural Engineering (CAE).
The position is available from 1st August 2019 or as soon as possible hereafter.
The successful candidate is required to have a strong background in soil-structure interaction for geotechnical structures, experimental testing and numerical modelling of fine- and coarse grained soils. The ideal candidate must demonstrate ability to conduct both fundamental and applied geotechnical research considering the link from micro to macro-mechanics. The candidate is research oriented, with a record in both experimental and numerical modeling in soil mechanics and offshore geotechnics related problems. Experience in developing novel numerical & testing methods in soil mechanics is preferable. The applicant is also expected to promote interdisciplinary research through collaboration with other research groups at Department of Engineering, at Aarhus University in general and with international collaborators. A demonstrated track record of teaching and supervision are qualifications that will be emphasized during the process of evaluation. Moreover, the applicant should teach research-based courses and projects in our Danish undergraduate programme; hence, Danish-speaking skills are given weight in the assessment. Our graduate program is fully international and all teaching is in English. Likewise, English is the official language of the department and faculty. The positions will be anchored in the Department’s CAE section.
Successful candidates are expected to work closely with other researchers/groups within the section and Department as well as with external stakeholders. The ability to work in a multidisciplinary team is essential. Successful candidates must also have a PhD in Civil or Architectural Engineering or a related cross-disciplinary field. The candidates must have excellent written and verbal communication skills. All positions are research positions where it is expected that the candidate is capable in competing for external funding. Assistant Professor (tenure track): Candidates must demonstrate potential for outstanding research and teaching. Some years of post-graduate research and publication experience is required. Experience from successful external research collaborations with industry and academia, project management skills, and experience in attraction of external funding is preferred.
Commitment to excellence in teaching at both undergraduate and graduate levels, including existing courses and development of new courses, is expected.

Science and Technology Tenure Track

Shortlisting is used. This means that after the deadline for applications – and with the assistance from the assessment committee chairman, and the assessment committee if necessary, – the head of department selects the candidates to be evaluated. The selection is made on the basis of an assessment of who of the candidates are most relevant considering the requirements of the advertisement. All applicants will be notified within 6 weeks whether or not their applications have been sent to an expert assessment committee for evaluation. The selected applicants will be informed about the composition of the committee and will receive his/her assessment. Once the recruitment process is completed a final letter of rejection is sent to the deselected applicants, including the main considerations emphasized during the selection process.

Science and Technology refers to the Ministerial Order on the Appointment of Academic Staff at Danish Universities under the Danish Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation.
