The Department of Medical Genetics, within the Faculty of Medicine at the University of British Columbia (UBC) and the BC Cancer Research Centre (BC Cancer) invite applications for a full-time (1.0 FTE) faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor,tenure track. We are seeking a translational scientist in immuno-oncology working in the areas of immune-genetics/genomics and cancer immunology, emphasizing discovery and translation of immune biology into novel therapeutic approaches to maximize the clinical potential of modern cellular immunotherapies. The ultimate objective is to improve treatment outcomes for cancer patients through collaborations with established, world-leading programs at the departments of Lymphoid Cancer Research, the Genome Sciences Centre and other research departments at BC Cancer and BC Children’s Hospital Research Institute.
Candidates for this position must hold a PhD or MD/PhD degree, awarded within the past 10 years, or equivalent, with postdoctoral research experience. The incumbent will show demonstrated ability to achieve excellence in teaching and will be expected to participate in the undergraduate, graduate and postgraduate teaching activities of the Department of Medical Genetics in their field of expertise. In addition, the incumbent will have demonstrated research skills and excellence in the area of cancer immunology and a demonstrated understanding of genetics, genomics, immune biology, and immunotherapies. Experience with a wide array of experimental approaches including cancer genome analysis and immunogenomic characterizations of clinical biopsy material, functional modeling, clinical test development, and drug testing in vivo would be highly desirable. As a faculty member in the Department of Medical Genetics and a Scientist at BC Cancer, the successful applicant will be expected to develop a strong, externally-funded and internationally-competitive research program, supervise graduate students and postdoctoral fellows, collaborate with other faculty members, actively participate in service to the Department, Research Center, University, and the academic/scientific community.
