The Department of Mathematics and Statistics at Auburn University, Alabama, is seeking to fill a nine-month tenure-track Assistant Professor position to begin August 16, 2020. Duties include establishing an independent research program in Mathematics and teaching at the undergraduate and graduate level. An earned doctorate in Mathematics or related field by the appointment start date is required and applicants should have strong evidence of teaching and research ability in Mathematics. Postdoctoral research experience is preferred. Successful candidates are expected to possess excellent written and interpersonal communication skills.
We seek applicants with research specialization in Applied Algebra, Linear Algebra, Algebraic Geometry, and related areas. Current research interests of the Algebra and Linear Algebra group include Algebraic Geometry, Representation Theory, Matrix and Tensor Theory, and computational aspects of these. Well-qualified candidates from related areas are also encouraged to apply.
The department has a PhD program and various MS programs, including a brand-new MS program in Data Science. It has around 50 mathematicians/statisticians and more than 120 graduate students engaged in research in a wide variety of areas in mathematics and statistics. Auburn University’s strong research programs in a variety of areas presents many opportunities for interdisciplinary research and for participation in its various multidisciplinary programs. The department is especially interested in candidates who can contribute to the excellence of the academic community, teaching, and research.
