Assistant Director, Ion Channel Core Facility

We are establishing a new Ion Channel, Transporter and Immunology (ICTI) Core Facility at NYU School of Medicine to support scientists to study ion channels in immune cells and other cell types. The core facility is part of and supports a new program focused on Ion Channels and Immunity directed by Dr. Stefan Feske and will be located in recently created space in the new Science Building at the main campus of NYU School of Medicine. We are looking for a full-time assistant director of this new facility at the level of non-tenure track Research Assistant Professor.

Responsibilities of the ICTI Core Facility manager will be to assist scientists in the design, conduct and interpretation of ion channel measurements using manual and automated patch clamp systems, to maintain and upgrade equipment, to train new users and to be responsible for the overall management of the facility. The assistant director will additionally liaise with faculty at and outside of NYU and with other organizations to promote the facility. He/she reports to the core director, Dr. William Coetzee.

General requirements:

o  Ph.D. degree in physiology, biology or a related area.

o  Experience in independently designing, conducting and interpreting experiments.

Highly motivated, responsible and very well organized with excellent attention to detail.

o  Effective oral and written communication skills in English

o  Willingness and ability to teach new users of ICTI core facility

o  Applicants with management experience and those interested in a long-term position are preferred.

Specific requirements:

o  Extensive hands-on experience in using and modifying manual patch clamp equipment to measure ion channel currents in cells

o  Solid background in ion channel physiology and data interpretation

o  Additional techniques desired but not necessary: Mammalian cell culture, molecular biology, fluorescence live cell imaging
