A motivated Research Technician

Leuven, Belgium

The VIB Center for Cancer Biology (CCB) is one of the research departments of VIB within the University of Leuven and is located in the University Hospital Campus, Leuven, Belgium. CCB hosts 11 research groups and in total represents a group of about 200 researchers, administrative and technical collaborators. The Center has a very diverse and highly international character, hosting researchers from at least 25 different countries.

The Laboratory for the Molecular Biology of Leukemia of Prof. Jan Cools is currently looking for a dynamic and motivated Research Technician to join the team:

“We try to understand the genetic complexity of leukemia, with the aim to use that information to develop novel treatment strategies.”

Leukemia is a genetically complex disease that is caused by the accumulation of mutations in the genome of immature blood cells. These abnormal blood cells slowly outcompete the normal blood cells and infiltrate in various tissues, causing failure of normal function. The Laboratory for the Molecular Biology of Leukemia has identified and characterized important oncogenes and tumor suppressor genes in leukemia, and has used that information to develop novel treatment strategies.

To achieve our research goals, we are generating novel mouse models to study the development of leukemia and to test new therapeutic strategies.

  • You will be part of a young research team and will be involved in the development of mouse models for leukemia
  • You will be responsible for mouse breeding and the analysis of mouse models (50% of your time)
  • You will be involved in several research projects where you will assist with cell culture, flow cytometry, cloning, PCR, sequencing, Western blotting, etc. (50% of your time)
  • You will have the opportunity to learn new state-of-the-art technologies and methods
  • Being part of a young research team, you will participate in laboratory management
  • Working part-time can be discussed.
