The Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg is looking to appoint an outstanding individual to a
Tenured Professorship in
„Solid state Quantum Theory“
(W3 salary)
within the Faculty of Natural Sciences II, Institute of Physics. The position will commence preferably by October 1st, 2024.
We are looking for a person with an outstanding track record in teaching and research. The research area should cover the quantum dynamics of interacting systems in the field of solid state physics and should complement existing research topics in a meaningful way. An example would be the subject of correlated electronic and spin systems in photonic fields including perspectives for applications in spin electronics and quantum information.
A sincere involvement in existing research networks such as the Collaborative Research Center TRR227 "Ultrafast spin dynamics" is desired. The collaboration with other groups within the faculty and with the external Max Planck Institute of Microstructure Physics and the Fraunhofer Institute for Microstructure of Materials and Systems IMWS in Halle is strongly encouraged.
Furthermore the teaching of several courses in theoretical physics as part of the bachelor, master and teacher training degree programs as well as the participation in the self-administration are expected. The courses on bachelor and teacher training level are to be held in German.
Further duties and responsibilities are stipulated in section 34 of the Saxony-Anhalt State Law of Universities.
Applicants need to fulfill the pre-conditions of appointment as stipulated in section 35 of the Saxony-Anhalt State Law of Universities. Particular emphasis is placed on a Habilitation in the relevant field, or an equivalent level of scientific achievement and recognition. Candidates are expected to have attained the appropriate level of experience or qualification in teaching.
The Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg is committed to diversity and aims to create an inclusive environment where our staff and students feel valued and inspired. In particular, we aim to increase the proportion of women appointed as permanent staff; therefore, appropriately qualified female candidates are strongly encouraged to apply for this position.
The Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg strives to provide an environment compatible with work-life-balance and has been certified as a family-friendly university since 2009.
Applications from candidates with disabilities are particularly welcome, and will be given preference in the event of equivalent qualification.
If you have any questions about the contents and the application process, please contact Dr. Birgit Lebek (birgit.lebek@natfak2.uni-halle.de).
Applications in a digital format (preferably as a single pdf file) should include a complete curriculum vitae, copies of qualifications, a brief description of the candidate’s scientific background, a list of publications and successful third-party funding acquisition, as well as a description of previous teaching experience. In addition a research concept taking into account the research focus of the faculty and a teaching concept are required.
