Senior Research Associate
REF: RD35207
Applications are invited for two Junior Group Leaders (Senior Research Associates in the University of Cambridge banding system) to join The Early Cancer Institute at the University of Cambridge (https://www.earlycancer.cam.ac.uk/), a world-leading centre for research and the UK's only institute dedicated to Early Cancer. The Junior Group Leaders will initiate and build independent research programmes related to one or more of the aims (risk prediction, detection, interception) of the Early Cancer Institute. Work related to a cancer of unmet need such as pancreas, or work to augment our emerging interest in immunophenotyping or data science including AI/machine learning is especially encouraged. We are looking for research programmes that have a line of site to clinical translation.
Applicants should have a PhD in a subject relevant to early detection of cancer with post-doctoral research experience, an excellent academic record and peer-reviewed publications that have had impact in the field. Relevant disciplines include cell and molecular biology, computational biology, physical sciences or other STEM subjects relevant to early detection. Clinically qualified researchers are also welcome to apply. Further details of the vacancy are available here https://www.jobs.cam.ac.uk/job/39278/.
The funding supporting these positions is available with immediate effect for five years in the first instance and in addition to the Group Leader salary will include a 3 year postdoctoral position, a PhD studentship and a start-up budget. The appointment will be subject to the Faculty Board of Clinical Medicine approval. It is anticipated that the position will be in the Department of Oncology, although depending on the area of expertise of the successful candidate, another University of Cambridge Department could be the appointing Department.
Please ensure that you upload a covering letter and CV in the Upload section of the online application. The covering letter should outline how you match the criteria for the post and why you are applying for this role. Please also upload a research proposal of no more than 3 pages in length in the Upload section of the online application. Please include details of your referees, including email address and phone number, one of which must be your most recent line manager.
Research Associate (SRA) level; appointment as an SRA will require evidence of an independent research reputation. Due to the levels of skills and experience required we anticipate making an appointment either on the RA scale or towards the bottom of the SRA scale.

Closing date: 13th March 2023
