The Department of Microbiology and Immunology has an exciting opportunity for a Full Time Senior Manager, Research Support. The Senior Manager, Research Support leads the research program teams to ensure successful system implementation and upgrades. Specifically, the Senior Manager, Research Support oversees the day-to-day operations and resources of research staff and supports programs for their growth and development.

 

JOB FUNCTIONS                                                                                           

  • Provides overall support for all Miami CFAR programs.

  • Coordinates the CFAR meetings, travel itineraries of invited researchers, including airline, hotel accommodations, and ground transportation.

  • Coordinates CFAR special projects, major events, and the CFAR annual international symposium.

  • Serve as liaison between CFAR PI, Core Directors of the CFAR, department administration, and other University operational and administrative units.

  • Develops, manages, and guides the CFAR Administrative Assistant with all CFAR website content.

  • Works closely with the department administration in affairs of CFAR grant, and CFAR supplemental awards.

  • Assists in monitoring expenditure and compliance of all CFAR accounts in accordance with ORA, CFAR, and NIH guidelines.

  • Reviews monthly reconciliations of all CFAR accounts.

  • Oversees CFAR Travel Card expenses, and CFAR travel reimbursements for conferences and trainings. Ensures reimbursement is provided within appropriate timeframes.

  • Analyzes incoming correspondence and projects in order to determine their significance and disseminate as appropriate.

  • Conducts meetings with research staff and ensures functions are coordinated in a timely and accurate manner.

  • Provides technical support and resolves operational problems.

  • Oversees department budget and identifies areas of opportunity for cost reduction.

  • Assists in the preparation and publication of manuscripts.

  • Recruits and trains research staff and prepares performance reports and disciplinary recommendations for the leadership team.

  • Analyzes reports, data briefs, and auxiliary publications for new topic modules.

  • Defines and produces indicators for a data visualization platform.

  • Establishes and continuously assesses the effectiveness of the internal controls within the unit and compliance with University policies and procedures. 

  • Ensures employees are trained on controls within the function and on University policy and procedures.

  • Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS                                                                                        

 

Education:

Bachelor’s degree in relevant field.

 

Experience:

Minimum 5 years of relevant experience. Research lab administrative support experience, and/or related work experience preferred.

 

Knowledge, Skills and Attitudes:

  • Knowledge of business and management principles.

  • Ability to direct, manage, implement, and evaluate department operations.

  • Ability to establish department goals, and objectives that support the strategic plan.

  • Ability to effectively plan, delegate and/or supervise the work of others.

  • Ability to lead, motivate, develop, and train others.
