At the heart of the work carried out by the DLR – Institute of Transport Research are questions concerning the causes of transport, its effects on society, the economy and the environment, as well as the designing of sustainable transport systems. Within this, we work together with international partners in science, economy and politics.


In the department of commercial transport, we analyse the effects of innovations and transport policy instruments on freight transport. In addition, we examine the acceptance and practicability of new solutions in empirical and also implementation-orientated projects. The objective is to make contributions to sustainable freight transport and to derive respective recommendations for transport and economic policies as well as the transport and logistics industry. To achieve this, we carry out technosocial systems analyses, impact modelling as well as profitability analyses. Our focus is currently on automation and digitalisation, new drive systems and fuels as well as new vehicle and logistics concepts.


The department of commercial transport already includes expertise in innovation economics, acceptance analyses and the technological evaluation of new drive concepts. This research portfolio is to be strategically expanded in accordance with market demands and research requirements to include economic policy and regulatory economic aspects.


You will be assuming the technical and organisational leadership of a research group with the interim working title
“Ground Transport Economy”. The following tasks will ensue for you:


Development of the strategic direction of the existing research group including creation of a concept in the context of the department, the institute and the DLR transport and energy research Organisational leadership of the group including personnel planning, responsibility for personnel and supervision of scientific and student assistants Scientific work in the group on economic relationships in transport (with a focus on freight transport, fuel and infrastructures) and on questions of socio-economic evaluation, responsibility for the content-related quality of the work Implementation of project acquisition and project management in the field of ground transport economy including the creation and maintenance of contacts to customers and partners
