Mobility has a high priority in our society. People want to reach their destination safely, comfortably and quickly. Goods must be transported cost-effectively over short and long distances. The consequences of mobility can be seen in environmental pollution, accidents and traffic jams, which increase with the ever-growing volume of traffic. These are the challenges we face at the Institute of Transportation Systems. We develop solutions for the safe and efficient mobility of the future.
Future vehicles will be increasingly automated through the development of complex software intelligence. Nevertheless, humans continue to play a central role in the traffic system as users, operators or traffic participants in the immediate vicinity. At the Institute of Transportation Systems, we therefore research and develop new solutions for the interaction design between humans and future vehicles in order to enable a safe, intuitively understandable and user-friendly interaction for humans. We work with agile design methods, such as virtual and augmented reality applications, in order to present our concepts to users as quickly as possible.
For the expansion of our existing interdisciplinary team we are looking for a computer scientist or engineer (Bachelor or comparable degree) with programming knowledge for the implementation of software and hardware prototypes of HMI concepts for automated vehicles as well as for the supervision of our research laboratory.
Your tasks will include the creation of hardware and software prototypes, e.g. in Virtual Reality (preferably Unreal Engine) for novel HMI for assistance and automation systems. You implement the prototypes in the DLR’s own simulators and test vehicles which are used for user tests in national and international projects at the institute.
A further focus of your activity is the support of our research laboratory. This usability laboratory is used for the user-centered development of interaction concepts and includes a static driving simulator as well as virtual and augmented reality applications. As laboratory manager of our usability laboratory you are responsible for the maintenance and further development of existing and new software and hardware prototypes and development tools in order to ensure the future viability of the laboratory.
You will work in a team on national and international research projects in an exciting subject area and have the opportunity to present the results of your work at national and international events.
