The Department of Experimental Methods develops optical and acoustical field measurement techniques for the acquisition of fluid-mechanical and aero-acoustical quantities and applies them mainly in large industrial wind tunnels and at in-flight testing for aerodynamics. The principal duties for you as a job holder will be the generation, measurement and analysis of turbulent superstructures in thermal convection at very high Rayleigh numbers as well as in laterally extended samples. For this purpose, you will adapt, apply and further develop the existing optical measurement methods for the acquisition of three-dimensional flow fields by means of Lagrangian "Particle Tracking" ("Shake-the-Box") as well as for the measurement of surface temperatures with phosphorescent paints (“Temperature Sensitive Paint”). The planned tasks belong to the DFG project "Experimental Analysis of Turbulent Superstructures in Thermal Convection by Time-Resolved Lagrangian Particle Tracking up to Very High Rayleigh Numbers", which is part of the DFG Priority Programme 1881 "Turbulent Superstructures".
