Job description:

The Atmospheric Processors Department of DLR’s Remote Sensing Technology Institute is working on the analysis of UV, visible, and IR spectroscopic observations, mostly done by satellite sensors. In the context of the CoMet campaign 2018 the airborne HySpex instrument has been used for the measurement of strong methane emissions in Upper Silesia, and another HySpex campaign is planned this summer focusing on carbon dioxide emissions of power plants.


The objective of this master thesis is to model the near infrared spectra expected to be observed. Furthermore, CO2 and CH4 concentrations shall be estimated from simulated and observed spectra. Radiative transfer models and retrieval codes developed in our department can be used and optionally adjusted to the requirements of this work.
