Institute of Transportation Systems
Area of research:
Join us in shaping the future of mobility! Together with us at the DLR, you can develop highly automated and cooperative vehicles in numerous national and international projects together with the automotive industry and our research partners.
Future vehicles will be increasingly automated through the development of complex software intelligence. Nevertheless, humans continue to play a central role in the transport system as users, operators or road users in the immediate vicinity. At the Institute of Transportation Systems we therefore research and develop new solutions for the interaction design between humans and future vehicles in order to enable a safe, intuitively understandable, and user-friendly interaction for humans.
For the expansion of our existing interdisciplinary team we are looking for a Master or Diploma Computer Scientist, Computer Engineer or Engineer with programming skills for a PhD position in the field of HMI concepts for highly automated vehicles.
As part of your PhD position, you will work on the following topics, among others:
Design and development of a holistic tool chain to support the design process of HMI concepts from different user perspectives on board and outside the vehicle. Innovative design tools should be considered to support the design team in its work. These include approaches from the areas of Virtual Reality (VR) and Augmented Reality (AR), which are to be integrated with conventional hardware solutions in the laboratory. Prototype software and hardware construction in DLR’s own simulators and test vehicles for the evaluation of the developed holistic design tools.
The simulators and test vehicles of the institute are available for your research. You will work in a team on national and international research projects in an exciting subject area and present the research results and prototypes at national and international events.
The position is to be filled immediately and is initially limited to 2 years. Depending on qualification and transfer of tasks, remuneration will be paid up to remuneration group 13 TVöD. Depending on the scope of duties, the position can be part-time or full-time.
