Job description:

The optical communication group of DLR’s Institute of Communications and Navigation develops experimental laser communication systems for satellites. Following the new space approach, it is required to use commercial EEE components on our payloads. To ensure functionality of our systems even in harsh space environment, it is necessary to choose electrical components wisely and to test them under realistic conditions for their specified parameters. These tests include total ionizing dose (TID), single event effects (SEE) and thermal-vacuum. In the thesis, the student will elaborate a survey about potential testing facilities and service providers, plan and support the tests and evaluate the results in order to identify suitable components.
