The DFG-funded research training group (GRK 2213) “Membrane Plasticity in Tissue Development and Remodeling” studies dynamic processes at the cell membrane as an interface of cell-cell communication. The focus is on molecular signals affecting plasma membrane morphology during organ development and tissue homeostasis. The departments of biology and medicine, GRK 2213, offer part-time positions for
2 Research Assistants (PhD student positions)
The positions are offered for a period of 3 years, if no former times of qualification must be considered. Hiring date will be the next available start date. The position is part-time (65 % of regular working hours) with salary and benefits commensurate with a public service position in the state Hesse, Germany (TV-H E 13, 65 %).
The GRK offers a doctoral program (in English) educating life scientists and featuring excellent research conditions, a comprehensive curriculum complemented by a broad supervision and mentoring network. The graduate students will conduct research under the supervision of internationally renowned scientists from the Faculties of Biology and Medicine of the Philipps-Universität Marburg as well as the Max-Planck-Institute Bad Nauheim.
PhD projects will address the formation of receptor and adhesion complexes, trafficking and signal trans-duction, actin and microtubule dynamics and phosphoinositide signaling. Graduate students will gain theo-retical background in research areas such as embryonic development, cell migration, metastasis, tissue homeostasis and repair with important implications for complex diseases. They will learn genetic and molecular methods and use state-of-the-art techniques like super-resolution and live-cell spinning disk confocal microscopy as well as nanoscopy.
We are looking for highly motivated applicants with a Master of Science or equivalent degree in life sciences. Successful candidates are expected to have a strong background in cell / developmental / molecular biology or biochemistry and possess excellent English skills.
We actively support the professional development of junior researchers by the offers of the Marburg Research Academy (MARA), the International Office, the Higher Education Didactics Office and the Human Resources Development Office.
We support women and strongly encourage them to apply. In areas where women are underrepresented, female applicants will be preferred in case of equal qualifications. Applicants with children are welcome – the Philipps-Universität is certified as a family-friendly university. A reduction of working time is possible (§ 8 Abs. 2 S. 1 HGlG). Applicants with a disability as described in SGB IX (§ 2 Abs. 2, 3) will be preferred in case of equal qualifications. Application and interview costs cannot be refunded.
