About the LCSB

The Luxembourg Centre for Systems Biomedicine (LCSB) is an interdisciplinary research centre of the University of Luxembourg.
We conduct fundamental and translational research in the field of Systems Biology and Biomedicine - in the lab, in the clinic and in silico. We focus on neurodegenerative processes and are especially interested in Alzheimer's and Parkinson's disease and their contributing factors. The University of Luxembourg has the following vacancy at the Luxembourg Centre for Systems Biomedicine (LCSB) - Integrative Cell Signalling group: Research & Development Specialist.
Successful candidates will join the Integrative Cell Signalling group, led by Prof. Alexander Skupin, which performs interdisciplinary research in brain disorders. Specifically, the group focuses on mechanisms of brain disorders by multiscale approaches including multiomics characterization, bioinformatics analyses and mechanistic modelling. The R&D specialist will support the analysis of mutation-induced impairments of ion channels with a focus on the sodium ion channel Nav1.1 by protein structure predictions and molecular dynamics simulations to perform advanced in silico drug screening as well as general bioinformatics analyses.
Your role
- General support of lab activities
- Performing molecular dynamics simulation
- Investigating in silico drug screening
- Molecular dynamics data integration
- Data interpretation and reporting of results
- Perform bioinformatics analyses for molecular data
- Participate in knowledge dissemination activities through the preparation of scientific publications or presentations in scientific venues
- Support funding applications (support hypothesis generation, conception, and grant writing)
- Participate in teaching activities (seminars and practicals)
- Support and tutoring of activity of students

Your profile
- MSc in Life Sciences, Neurosciences, Computational or Systems Biology or related field
- Strong interest in interdisciplinary research
- Proven experience with high-performance computing
- Good command of data analysis
- Skills to autonomously conduct data analysis with solid understanding of statistics
- Experience with GROMACS or OpenMM are an asset
- Excellent written and oral communication skills in English with proven experience in the writing of scientific publications
- Excellent team-working, interpersonal skills, and ability to collaborate with local and international partners
- Enthusiasm and commitment to research
- Ability to think ahead as well as to troubleshoot
